HEALTH AND SAFETY

All injuries, whether minor or serious, must be reported immediately to the teacher or Studio Director. Universal first aid supplies, including bandages and protective gloves, are maintained on-site and accessible at all times in accordance with Alberta workplace safety requirements.

If an injury appears serious or requires medical attention beyond basic first aid, UniverseSoul Dance staff will contact Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and ensure the injured individual is safely cared for until help arrives. Parents or legal guardians will be notified promptly in the event of any injury requiring more than basic first aid.

Injured students who are physically able may observe class; however, they remain responsible for reviewing class materials and catching up on missed content.

INJURY RESPONSE

ILLNESS HYGIENE

To maintain a healthy studio environment, students and staff who are unwell must not attend classes or rehearsals. This includes, but is not limited to, symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, persistent cough, rash, or eye infection. See Sickness Policy below for details.

If a participant begins exhibiting contagious symptoms during class, they will be separated from the group when appropriate, and a parent or guardian will be contacted for prompt pickup.

All participants are expected to practice good hygiene, including regular handwashing before and after class, after restroom use, and after contact with shared equipment.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

UniverseSoul Dance maintains clear emergency protocols to ensure the safety of all participants.

  • Fire or Evacuation: Participants must follow posted evacuation routes and assemble at the designated meeting area outside the studio.

  • Medical Emergency: Teachers or staff will contact EMS and administer first aid as trained. Parents or guardians will be notified immediately.

  • Other Emergencies (e.g., severe weather, gas leak): Participants must follow staff instructions, evacuate if required, and wait for an official “all clear” before re-entering the studio.

Emergency contact numbers are posted in the studio.

RESPONSIBILITY AND COMPLIANCE

All students, staff, contractors, and visitors are expected to comply with this Health & Safety Policy to maintain a safe and supportive environment. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in suspension or removal from activities or programs at the discretion of UniverseSoul Dance.

The health and safety of our community is a priority. Students should not attend class if experiencing any of the following:

  • Fever

  • Vomiting within the past 24 hours
